Are you really burned out, or are you simply exhausted from living a life that no longer feels right?

Burnout is a word we hear everywhere these days. But what does it actually mean to burn out? And how can we tell the difference between being tired, experiencing chronic stress, and feeling disconnected from ourselves?

In this episode of Beneath the Noise, I'm joined again by life coach and yoga teacher Marta Jalkiewicz for an honest conversation about burnout, exhaustion, and the deeper patterns that keep us pushing beyond our limits.

I share my own experience of burnout - a period when my body practically shut down and it took me nearly a year to regain my physical strength. Marta brings a different perspective, reflecting on the gradual exhaustion that can build over years of ignoring our needs, constantly performing, and living out of alignment.

Together, we explore why taking a vacation or improving our daily habits isn't always enough, how childhood patterns and our sense of self-worth influence our relationship with productivity, and why lasting change often requires looking beneath the surface.

In this conversation, we explore:

  • The difference between burnout, exhaustion, and misalignment
  • Why burnout doesn't always look like a complete physical breakdown
  • How our bodies communicate that something needs to change
  • Why rest and self-care alone may not solve the underlying problem
  • The hidden connection between productivity, self-worth, and childhood patterns
  • Why we keep returning to old behaviors, even after experiencing burnout
  • The importance of genuine human connection and support
  • How self-awareness, compassion, and small intentional actions can help us create lasting change

One of the most important insights from our conversation is that not every form of exhaustion is burnout, but persistent exhaustion deserves our attention.

Sometimes we need rest. Sometimes we need support. And sometimes we need to reconsider the way we're living.

Perhaps the most important question isn't simply "How can I get my energy back?" but "What am I spending my energy on — and is it the life I actually want to live?"

If you've been feeling constantly tired, overwhelmed, or quietly disconnected from your everyday life, this conversation might help you look at your experience from a different perspective.
